Interest Rates Have peaked

In my view, we have seen the highs in Morth American interest rates. The US Fed may have one more 25 basis point hike left but that would be more of a face saving gesture as Chairman Bernanke has painted himself into a corner. Meanwhile, the US housing market is definitely weakening, which in turn is affecting consumer confidence. The Bank of anada knows how important the US is to our trade picture so will be very unlikely to hike rates on July 11. What does this all mean? It means that mortgage rates have peaked, for one, and for two, it means that interest rates, on balance, will fall over the next twelve months. Thus, borrowers will win and lenders should extend term and duration to maximize returns. More>>
